Our Launch Party!

Man, I am so psyched about this!

When I first began REV one of the first people I approached was Miami Promoter Notorious Nastie (blog, myspace), and he said (in his all too distinctive way), "let's put a launch party together."

I can't believe how smoothly things have come together and even more than that I can't believe the talent involved for this show.

In the coming weeks Liz and I are going to be releasing bio's and Q&A's with each band, artist, filmmaker, and magazine publisher that is taking part in this show.  I'm putting the press release in this post, so that everyone can get a feel for it, but let me add to it.

Afrobeta, Madmartigan, and Furious Dudes, who I consider being the three headliners for the show, are three of the upper crust of Miami music talent.  I can't believe the quality of the bands that are going to be playing across the board.  Not to mention, it's an eclectic mix of music, like getting beat over the head (by Madmartigan and Furious Dudes) with a feather (by Afrobeta).

Along with them are a collection of people who Liz and I have known throughout our lives as friends and acquantances.  I'm incredibly happy that they're going to be part of this show.

Even better, it's only $6!  I'm really proud about that as well.

Keep an eye out for updates that I'll be posting on the blog.  Additionally, if anyone has any in's to local media outlets, please let me know, the more word that we can get out the better.

This should be really good.

Local Artists and Musicians Come Together For

REVMiami.com’s Launch Party, Jan 30, 2009

PS-14, Downtown Miami

On January 30, 2009, Miami’s newest underground e-zine, REV (www.revmiami.com), will be throwing a Launch Party at PS-14 (28 NE 14th Street) in Downtown Miami.

REV is an online blog-format special interest magazine dedicated to South Florida music, art, and culture, organized by Ric Delgadoand Elizabeth Ferguson. Both are South Florida natives with firmly planted roots within their respective art scenes for several years. This will be the third magazine published by Ric Delgado and Elizabeth’s first.

REV has been publishing articles since December 9, mainly covering the events of Art Basel Miami Beach, but now the focus will turn even further towards South Florida events, artists, and musicians. Interviews will include visiting photographer and musician Nikola Kuperus (of Detroit-based Adult.), lead singer of Dyslexic Postcards - Joshua Xmas, filmmaker Aiden Dillard, local musician and writer Adel 156 (of online ‘zine Feast of Hate and Fear.com), musician Buffalo Brown and many more.

REV’s launch party will reflect the site’s desire to showcase talents from all of Miami’s different art and music groups. Headliners Afrobeta, Furious Dudes, and Madmartigan have distinctly different sounds representing the diversity of South Florida music. Other acts include: Fireside Social, Gatoe Xango, The Secondhand Outfit(from Ft. Lauderdale), Dyslexic Postcards, The Still Voice (from Orlando), and Gus Gus.

The bands playing are all reflective of just how different Miami music is. On one hand you have acoustic musician’s Gatoe Xango and Gus Gus, hip-hop group The 2ndHand Outfit, rock from Dyslexic Postcards, punk music from Fireside Social, heavy garage rock with Furious Dudes and Madmartigan, and then top it all off with the electronica-soul sound of Afrobeta.

Additionally, the party will represent the South Florida art and cultural scene. Local artists displaying art will be BOPSY, INC., Joey Explodey, Jonesy, and D. Bauchery. Local filmmaker Christina DerHagopian will be showing her film Drag Kings Me As He. There will also be a table for Orlando based Ultra Violent Magazine.

The night will begin at 9pm with the various artists displaying their work, along with music from REV’s collection of Indie, Rock, and Punk, especially focused on music from local South Florida musicians. The bands will start playing promptly at 10pm, starting with Fireside Social, followed by The Still Voice, Dyslexic Postcards, Furious Dudes, The Secondhand Outfit, MadMartigan, and closing out the show with Afrobeta. The cost of the show is $6.
