Steve chats with Hoosha

hoosha1Hoosha is a hot Miami trio, made up of Danny Ferrer on guitar and vocals, Kevin Tomas on bass, and Stefano Rotati on drums.

For just a three piece these guys have a blues rocking sound comparable to pioneer blues-rock trios like Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys or Cream. Hoosha has been playing around the Miami area for over two years and have developed a strong fan base in the process. These guys bring the funk so if you’re feeling blue do yourself a favor and check out their myspace page for updates on a show near you.

Danny and Kevin talked to me about their sounds after their set at the 11th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert at Tobacco Road.

Steve: You guys have such a tight and catchy sound; I really enjoyed your set. Are you locally based?

Danny: Thank you.  Yeah, we’re from Miami.

S: Do you have any CDs tonight?

Kevin: We’re actually coming out with our first EP, it's going to be four songs it has everything you heard tonight.

S: Cool, so who does most of the writing?

K: We all write together.

S: I think that’s the best way to write music, it gives each person the freedom to do their thing. What would you say are some of your influences on bass you have such a crazy style?

K: I’d have to say Flea, I’ve been listening to a lot of Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten with a little Jaco Pastorius.

S: I listen to all of those guys; I see where you’re coming from.

What about you Danny, who are your influences on the guitar?

D: You know what I think it’s more a combination of John Frucanti and John Scofield. I’m not going to say Hendrix because I think everybody is.

S: Cool, I like that. I like the patience that you guys have, you let the music swell and then build up it’s a lot of fun. Is that a bass amp you’re playing your guitar out of?

hoosha2D: No, I know it looks like one but it’s actually a vintage old style guitar amp. It has a bass-like tone.

S: Yeah it’s a good tone, a very full sound.

D: Yeah that’s why I like it

S: Thank you guys.

D, K: Thank you

Ladies and gentlemen. It has been fun but it appears Hoosha is over. Due to unexplainable issues, the group is no longer together through no desire of my own. The other two members may proceed together but as far as Hoosha is concerned, the beast is being laid to rest. Thank you all for the good times and support :) Be sure to check out another great project http://www.myspace.com/thehotboxsocial

  9. hey everyone.

Some sad news, Hoosha has parted ways with our drummer. Unfortunately, some false information is going around that Hoosha is no more. Dont worry guys, we're simply and respectfully moving on under a different name. keep checking back on our myspace or facebook for more updates.

But keep it up stefano! You were sick! Don't let that shit get you down that other project is sounding great. I want to hear some studio recordings from you guys! Put me on your mailer - sjiery11@yahoo.com

Best of luck to the ex-hoosha band as well

..thanks guys. I have faith the ex hoosha members will do well with their next project (I believe they're still playing the 4/20 festival with RevMiami as well). Also be sure to check out the insanely funky stylings of The Hot Box Social - April 11th at the Wallflower Gallery at 10:30 pm!
