5 Questions for Alissa Christine

One of the featured artists in REV Miami II (this Friday, March 20th) is local photographer Alissa Christine.

In 2008, Alissa began an incredible project. A year long photo documentary entitled,  i love miami 365.   It is a celebration of life as witnessed at any moment.

The mission: to stimulate consciousness and gratitude of the beauty of everyday life through photography. Alissa's goal: to highlight her loves of the Magic City weaving together thoughts & inspirations, cultures & diversions, friends & strangers, locations & vibrations - including visions not typically seen in the mass media. Some shots were planned, some were guerilla encounters, and some days were serendipitous surprises.

Accolades include winning Fotomission's 4th South Beach Photomarathon Competition. One hundred and four contestants were assigned six topics to photograph on South Beach over a period of five hours. At the finish line, only four photos per topic were submitted per participant, straight from the camera, with no allowance for post-digital editing or retouching.

She has also published monthly in 944 Magazine since October 2007, and freelanced for magazines such as Ocean Drive, Florida Inside Out, Miami Modern Luxury, Art Basel, Egotrip, 6 degrees, Nikki Style and Public. Other projects include CD photography for Inaia, Big Brooklyn Red, Elastic Bond, Sofy Encanto, Suénalo Sound System and commissioned work for So-Me Designs, Ola Restaurant, Carrousel Yacht and Penguin Hotel.Alissa Christine has been exhibiting and painting live in South Florida & NYC since 2005 and is the Artist in Residence at OLA/Sanctuary Hotel, South Beach.

The following is a list of questions that I recently submitted to Alissa.

Who/what inspires you?

Love and life in evolution.

What kept you going (on this project) for each of the 365 (366 - leap year!) days of 2008?

I was on a mission. first it was a commitment. then, an addiction. i needed to get my photo fix every day.

I loved the adventure... conceptualizing, experiencing & creating the "perfect" image within each 24-hour deadline. non-stop, all year.

...and, to say "i did it!"

Do you think it best to go alone, or do you prefer to take a partner on your photographic journeys?

All of the above... the photo journeys directly coincided with my life journeys...sometimes with friends, sometimes solo, and sometimes with a body guard!

Any special aspect of Miami that you are drawn to to photograph?

The vibe.

How has this project affected your photography? And/or how has it affected how you yourself perceive your art?

I feel like a photo superhero.  Life in the magic city threw me daily blends of new emotions, thoughts, distractions, subjects, revelations, obstacles, events, miracles, concepts & inspirations to work with. and no matter how easy or challenging the situation, the result is a photo for each day in the name of art. I love my work, 365.

Alissa Christine channels the true essence of beauty through her work and draws inspiration from the pure & simple joys of life. I am very excited to have Alissa involved in the show. Be sure to check out her projections in the courtyard of  PS14 on Friday.
