Artists Unite for Kids in Distress II March 21, 2009

A group of artists and musicians in the South Florida area will be joining together this Saturday March 21 at Radio-Active Records in Ft. Lauderdale for the second annual Artists Unite for Kids in Distress (K.I.D.) Benefit. "Kids in Distress is a community-supported agency providing services for the prevention and treatment of child abuse in South Florida."
My lovely girlfriend Melissa and I conceptualized the event and sought help from ten unique and talented artists from Miami to St. Petersburg to join us in displaying their paintings, photographs, and digital images.
In addition to the featured artists, we have 5 great local bands and 3 DJs performing. The featured art work is for sale and the artists will be donating at least 15% of their sales to K.I.D. We have also reached out to local businesses that have agreed to lend a hand by providing gift certificates and other services to be included in what is shaping up to be a very attractive raffle.
Last year we were able to raise over $600 for the local chapter of K.I.D. and we hope to double that this year. When Melissa and I met with our liaison at the Ft. Lauderdale facility to present the money raised we were offered a tour of the grounds. The K.I.D. facility is truly amazing, we learned that each child that benefits from this organization has a different story and they range in age from newborn infants to twelve years old. The area called the Kid Crisis Home Shelter is a safe haven for kids which is equipped with classrooms, dormitories, cafeteria, entertainment center, playgrounds, and nurseries that provide 24 hour care.
K.I.D. also runs a foster care program that includes a training or transition course for families interested in participating. The first goal is to try to place the kids with loving family members that are capable of caring for them and the second option is placing them with families willing to open their hearts and homes. I can attest that there is a great demand for more families to make the commitment to be foster parents or in some cases adoptive parents to these precious children. Don't leave these children behind, please come out and support this important cause.
We want to thank everyone involved in the benefit show including the artists, musicians, DJ’s, friends, family, local businesses, Ric at REVMiami, and of course Radio-Active Records for allowing us to utilize their great store as our base for a second year!
Stay tuned next week for the follow up post.

What a great idea for a fundraiser! I have been looking for ideas like this to help one of the foundations in my area.
Hey, nice tips. Perhaps I'll buy a bottle of beer to the man from that forum who told me to visit your site :)
