REV Miami II - Recap
This is REVMiami's 100th post!!!
I really didn't think that it would be possible, but somehow REV Miami II exceeded my expectations - and I know it's heresy, but I think we did even better than REV Miami I (REVMiami.com's Launch Party).
I got to PS14 right at 9 o'clock this time, and there were already artists waiting. In REV Miami I I missed the artists setting up, but this time I was there to give direction and help out.
REVMiami.com contributor Steven Imas brought three photographs. One of the photos was of a drummer called "A Return to PunkGene Krupa reborn as a punk rocker", I liked it a lot. There was a lot of dark space and then a focused spotlight on the drummer.
Digitall brought a couple of small black and white photographs that were framed in very simple wooden frames. Alissa Christine set up a booth for her i love miami 365 merchandise, as well as having videos playing on the back projector and the inside television screen. Veit brought several hip-hop themed oil paintings and small ink drawn pieces. Yvonne Cordoba brought her painting Mi Almohada.
D. Bauchery brought a brand new piece for the show (of my roommate and bestfriend Carol). Joey Explodey's mixed-media comic style painting was inspired by MAD magazine's Spy versus Spy called "Heart Break in the Magic City of Titties or My Liver Hurts or Godzookie Takes a Dookie or Searching For That Inner Piece".
IVA had some extremely unique metal pieces set up on the inside that caught the disco lights and added to the party atmosphere. Noel Lanzas setup a booth in the back with several large oil paintings that used a lot of bright, primary colors. Guillermo Ruballo brought a monstrous piece that he set up over Flavor Flav's face on the back patio.
There were also a couple of surprise guest artists, Lolo from I Exist and Chelsea. Lolo brought ink and paper pieces mounted on thick paper and Chelsea brought abstract oil paintings that she mounted at the door between the inside room and the back patio.
Also, in the back we had two tables for local t-shirt designers, David Jon Acosta from Gold Saturn and Saje Robinson from the Saje Robinson Collection.
And that was just the artists!
The bands... my god, what can I say?
ArtOfficial, !MAYDAY!, The JeanMarie, Jacob Jeffries Band, Tristan Clopet & The Juice, and La Guardia all came and killed. I think the pictures speak for themselves.
The turn out was great, the art exhibitions were great, the bands were great. Man. I just don't have enough good things to say about the night.
AJ Maxwell (AJMaxi@yahoo.com) already gave us a short preview of the REV Miami II video.
Courtesy of REVMiami's contributing staff Elizabeth Ferguson, Denise Diaz, and Alexandra Elizabeth, here are pictures from the show. Thanks again.
