The Mausoleum takes place every Wednesday at Black Sheep Bar (721 Lincoln Lane, Miami Beach)

Four or five years ago there was this killer Gothic/Industrial party at Club Ozone in South Miami called The Morgue. I would meet up with friends from work on a Wednesday, head over, get my 2-4-1's and stumble home.

I wasn't even necessarily into the music, it was just a good vibe with good drink specials.

Then I got a day job, Club Ozone got torn down, and The Morgue disappeared off my radar.

One of the best parts of being heavily involved in the local music scene is getting to meet people who have a passion for music and put it forward. Let me introduce DJ Dracula's Daughter.

Since The Morgue ended Dracula's Daughter started up another party called The Mausoleum, which has bounced around different venues and has found a new home in Black Sheep Bar (721 Lincoln Lane, Miami Beach).

It has the same old standards that drew me in the first place. 2-4-1 drink specials and a fan friendly location. Every week has brought a new adventure. In this post I'm going to include photos from March 18, when punk band Boy Prostitute played, but recent events have been a Post-WMC Free Show (brought to you by REVMiami.com) featuring Otto Von Schirach, and this Wednesday, April 8, will feature Avenue D's Debbie D spinning a guest set. Not to mention the upcoming Gothic Beauty contest, April 15.

Thanks to REVMiami's Alexandra Elizabeth for her pictures of the night and of Boy Prostitute. Don't forget to visit her blog at alexandramazing.blogspot.com.

March 18, 2009, Boy Prostitute played at The Mausoleum. I actually had never seen Boy Prostitute before, even though I've had the cast of characters in my musical world for quite awhile now.

Michael Midnight (guitar and lead vocals) was the first promoter I worked with in Miami, and also who my partner in the first zine I published, UnScene Zine. Chris Critic (drums) was in one of the first bands I interviewed for Unite Magazine, The Reckless. Matt Touchstone (guitar) owned the warehouse practice space that Stay Hitt (cover band for Unite Magazine) and Why Not (featured band for Unite Magazine) played. And Nick Whiskey (bass) is also the bassist for Stay Hitt.

It's like watching an All-Star band of people from my personal punk rock world from 5 years ago.

And damn, they are good. Their songs are catchy but morbid.

Also, I gotta admit, that night was an extra amount of fun for me because it was the first time I worked sound at an event. My job entailed sitting behind a sound board and making sure everything was running ok. I think I did a good job, I'm glad I didn't totally mess it up.  But getting to experience every single aspect of doing a show (promoting, door, sound, writing, etc.) is giving me such an education in the world of music.  Still on my checklist is playing a show and working the bar.  Hopefully that'll change soon too.
