Follow Up on the Closing of Black Sheep Bar
I found this post on the FloridaDNB.com Forums through the TalkNightlife.com Forums. This was posted by Juan "Basshead" Louimet:
Hi everyone. Here is a little insider information for my friends at Floridadnb.com. This is not the official press release, rather it is something coming from my heart directly to you all because many of the members of this website have been along for the ride since the beginning.
After many weeks and late nights of negotiations with outside parties concerning the future of Black Sheep, last night we finally reached a point where I feel we can announce that we have agreed to terms on the sale of the business. Even though it could be seen as sad to leave something many of us have put so much time and effort into, these are actually exciting times for us. In my mind, I equate this to a graduation. We are leaving the business in very capable hands, and our future is bright as we are partnering up with established entities all over town who want to include what we can bring to the table, including the new ownership of the business at what has become a familiar address to many of us: 721 North Lincoln Lane. There will be more news about these future developments in the next few days and weeks.
Many thanks to everyone who has played any part in the success of Black Sheep during our time there. No matter how big or how small, whatever part you played has made a difference, and our sincere thanks go out to all of you. Black Sheep has always been a labor of love, not a get-rich-quick idea. Many people have put in countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears, often times going above and beyond their job description, simply because they love the place (for example I have not been on payroll there for over a year). There are also many people who performed other tasks for us, whether it be djs/bands/performers, promoters/event planners, venue upkeep, artistic design, airport and hotel runs, or what have you. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with all of these people over the past few years. I'm proud to say that Black Sheep has served its purpose. Together we achieved the primary goal of exposing our local underground bass culture to a more mainstream audience. This is evident by the events popping up all over town which include the music and talented people we have been showcasing at Black Sheep all along.
Keep an eye out for an official press release regarding these developments. Our closing parties will be "Shopbars Summer Mess" on July 22nd, as well as events on the weekend of July 24/25. You can expect great music as usual, and also some unheard of drink specials as we need to clear inventory before the new regime takes over.
Once again, I can't say it enough, many many many thanks to everyone who has been a part of Black Sheep (and its previous Laundry Bar incarnation) over the years, whether as a loyal customer, an employee, or anything in between. Here's to a bigger, better and very exciting present and future!
