Big City Breakdown 6: Tristan Clopet and the Juice- "Untitled"

Big City Breakdown (BCB) is a bi-weekly video feature where local musicians are taken out of their typical performance element and placed at one of Miami’s outdoor hotspots as they present a song. The presentation will be shot in a single running take with no editing magic. BCB is an opportunity to showcase Miami’s best talent, highlighting their versatility without electricity, four walls, and other amenities of the bar and club scene.

For this episode we originally planned to meet Tristan Clopet at the Bakehouse Art Complex (BAC) to film him performing in front of the historic silos. The building and accoutrements date back to the 1920’s when the BAC was formerly an industrial bakery, sometime in the 1980’s the property was converted into the art complex it is today.

Though we had a good plan from the beginning, in the end we agreed that the playful Purivs Young mural across from the silos was a more suitable location. The evolution of the BAC and our changes in game plan all made me ponder how you can’t rely on plans to remain set in stone.

A proverbial twist we have encountered time and again is the pesky ambient sounds that creep into our sessions. During Tristan’s performance he was matched up against a periodic jet plane hum and a slow moving ice cream truck. Tristan remained unruffled and patient during the multiple takes, smiling and joking all along. He even threw a curve ball at us when he performed a hidden, untitled gem that he’d only played in public once before. Please enjoy this intimate session of Tristan’s untitled ballad.
