Candace Meyer of So-Me Fashion - Future Classic Festival

Candance Meyer SoMe 3Candace Meyer is one of those do-it-all kind of girls.  One night you'll find her rocking on stage with Alukard or behind a DJ table spinning Dubstep, possibly writing a poem or two, and now she's putting on a fashion show at Future Classic Festival this Saturday, September 12 (click the flier in the right side bar to purhcase tickets now).

At 22 years old she's burst onto the scene like Seth Rogan after Knocked Up.  She's been around, a lot of people know her, you've seen her make a cameo or two on friend's sets, and now she's getting featured everywhere.

I also wanted to focus on the other events surrounding Future Classic Fest.  Candace is a local Miami product and the beauty of this event is local bands, DJs, and others, all coming together to showcase their talents.

How did you get involved with Future Classic Festival?

Well I have Cynic to thank for that! We've known each other for a long time and it was like a 1, 2, 3 type of deal. He put me in contact with the right person, I gave that guy the scoop on what I could bring to the table and he put me on.

What inspired you to be involved in fashion?

Really, not having any clothes!  Four months ago, I could fit my entire wardrobe into one suitcase and then, by manifestation and the law of attraction, I got sponsored by So-Me.

I've always been the type of person that didn't buy into the ridiculousness of brand name clothing and never thought anyone was cooler for wearing Versace. I went to a fashion show to support my girls from Lola Nitzche and saw the So-Me line - love at first sight!  Their clothes promote the same message as I do - peace, equality and just awareness in general. Exactly two months later, to the day, the deal was closed and I was going to pick up my gear.

Candance Meyer SoMe 4Another reason why I'm such an avid supporter of the line is because the proceeds go towards an organization called No More Tears. To sum it up, NMT helps immigrant woman and their children who are victims of spousal abuse GET OUT and START OVER! My mom divorced her second husband for beating me and it was hard enough with her being a US citizen. I can only imagine how hard it is for women who risk getting sent back... so I'm doing whatever I possibly can. (Visit their site at www.So-MeDesigns.com)

How is Miami in terms of a "fashion" city?

Well, in my eyes, there's two types of people: the Cool Kids and the Others. The Cool Kids are the originals, the innovators, and the creative. They create their own style and don't conform. They shop at thrift stores and generally just have more FUN. They probably recycle more, too.

Then there's the others.

What are you looking most forward to at FCF (except your fashion show, of course)?

Well I still can't get over the excitement that my music's going to be playing.  I'm taking the opportunity to release some stuff from my album and it's a long awaited feat.

Candance Meyer SoMe 1Aside from that, N*E*R*D, of course! I love their style and approach so I'm definitely going to have a blast watching them. Otherwise, the lineup is amazing. I love that the locals are getting to shine and it's an opportunity to open doors to an array of people who don't go out to all these places we play and follow the dopeness that Miami has to offer. I really do think that it's going to be a future classic festival because so many people are going to be in the same place at the same time.

I know you are super involved all over town - what are some of the things that you are doing and how can people keep track of what you're up to?

Thank you for noticing! Right now, I'm just basically ripping my heart out and throwing it at as many people as I can.

I'm with Labeless Records and currently working on my album. If you see Alukard playing anywhere, I'm 99% likely to be there. Level (Alukard's lead siner and guitarist) is my main producer and Grizzly (Alukard's emcee) is the love of my life. We're kind of like the 3 Musketeers - gone around doing anything from acoustic sets at coffee houses to shows like we did in April with Canabis headlining. About 50 stage appearances this year. It's a family. Like ants - we have one focus and we all have our little jobs to keep it running. Have to give love to Sin, Becca, and Monkey. Those people are on it! 211 Crew! xoxoxo
