Future Classic Festival Has Arrived
Future Classic Festival (click to buy tickets) takes place Saturday, September 12, 2009, at SoHo Studios (2136 NW 1st Avenue), from 4PM - 2AM.
Wow. Does anything more need to be said about Future Classic Fest?
This event could possibly be a reaction to the cancelling of other festivals like Langerado and Rock the Bells, both of whom focus on bringing national touring acts together in enormous festivals with a side stage here and there for some of Miami's local favorites.
This concept is absolutely brilliant and makes alot of business sense in a weak economy. Instead of bringing 30 national artists they're bring one national artist and booking the rest of the bill with the biggest bands in Miami.
This also bodes well for the local Miami music scene in general. Filling up a voluminous space like SoHo Studios is no easy feat and doing it on the backs of local talent no less.
Along with N.E.R.D. is a dream lineup of Awesome New Republic (REVMiami interview), Spam All Stars, Grammy nominated Locos Por Juana, one of REVMiami's favorites Afrobeta (Big City Breakdown episode), Suenalo, ¡MAYDAY! (interview), ArtOfficial (Big City Breakdown episode), and more in the "headlining" spots.
The rest of the night is has known, but not necessarily "huge," Miami bands Elastic Bond (Big City Breakdown episode), Fusik, Bachaco (interview), The Morning Flesh Project, and others.
But I don't want to cruise over the rest of the event either (check out FCF's website to see a full sized version of the flyer at the beginning of the article). The event also features some of Miami's favorite underground DJs: resident Poplife DJs Aramis and Induce, and also Off the Radar's Ray Milian (his Off The Radar blog is an essential read for music fans), plus several more.
