Ron English - Grin On GrassNestled among the designer jean stores, the highly overpriced restaurants, and Miami Beach novelty stores is one of my favorite places in the world: Art Center South Florida.

I can't believe I made it a whole year of writing for REVMiami and have never mentioned ACSF.  Last year when I was living on South Beach, I must have walked up and down Lincoln Road at least once a week, and would go into ACSF everytime they had a new exhibition.  Whether it was Comic art, the installation piece with the mechanical flying carpet, or walking amongst the various artist studios, ACSF is a constant treat along Lincoln Road.

And it's Free.  Doesn't get much better than that.

The current installation is a leftover from last month's Art Basel, by artist collective Primary Flight, called blue.print.for.space.  According to Art Center South Florida's website, Primary Flight exists to bring together 100 artists specifically to do "site-specific, street-level, outdoor mural and performance art projects in Miami's Wynwood Art Destrict during Art Basel each year."

The pieces at the Lincoln Road gallery feature pieces from over "25 of today's most active and unique street artists."  Some really well known artists pieces were on display including Obama "Hope" artist, Shepard Fairey aka Obey, and one of my absolute favorite Pop Surrealistic artists Jeff Soto.

What stands out most is how the majority of these paintings use of vivid colors and use of comic book style figures to portray haunting or ironic images is absolutely mindblowing.  Some art critics say "art has moved beyond paint and canvas," but what I see coming from this underground scene is very, very unique and it's humbling to be able to witness it's growth.

Stop by while you can, because I believe the installation will be changed in the next couple of weeks.  But, even when they do, it's always worthwhile to drop by the gallery and studios located at 800 Lincoln Road, and witness art at it's base level - directly from the artists themselves.
