Happy New Year everyone!

This is the first email newsletter being sent out by REVMiami.  Thanks to everyone who signed up to our email list over the past couple of months.  I assure you, I will try my best not to be another piece of junk email that eventually becomes marked for your spam folder.

For those of you who don't know, REVMiami officially celebrated it's one year anniversary this past month.  This has been an incredible year of our growth and coming of age.  We have done tons of collaborations with musicians and artists, and we only look forward to more.

Along with Liz Ferguson, I founded REVMiami under a very simple principal: We do this because we love it.  Any writer, photographer, or videographer that has contributed to REV has had one single rule, cover what you love and don't worry about what people will think.  I take great pride that REV has been a reflection of artists expressing their love and admiration of the arts of Miami.

By far the most popular project of REVMiami.  Steve Imas came up with the concept about 6 months ago, and watching it come to fruition and grow has been fantastic.  The videos, which we post on YouTube (so that there can be more exposure for the artists) have already passed the 6,600 views mark!  Additionally, Episode #9, featuring Radioboxer, won South Florida Daily Blog's Post of the Week, November 22, 2009.

Shows and Concerts

Our main trilogy of shows, REVMiami I, II, and III, all at now closed PS14, were extremely popular, taking place mainly in the Spring and Summer of this past year.  Not only were there the main three shows, but we also sponsored or were involved in countless other shows at various locations across Miami.

REVMiami I REVMiami II REVMiami III

Special thanks to James at Soul of Miami, FIU's Local Radiation, and our friend Notorious Nastie, for all of their support in helping promote the events in their various ways.  But much, much more than anything, thank you to all the musicians, artists, Tattoo Shops, fashion designers, and an amazing number of people who took part in the events.  Each show averaged 6 bands participating in the events, and easily surpassed 30 different artists -- of course, I can not forget to mention REVMiami's participation in this past year's 420 Music Festival, which featured 80 different musicians and bands over the course of a 4 day festival.

I can not stress how much work it took from an amazing amount of people to pull these events off.  Much, much, much thanks.

Band Profiles and Interviews

Be it Joshua Xmas of Dyslexic Postcards, Leah Cross of Amnesty International, local Miami artist Steve Burzynski, !MAYDAY!, Fireside Social, Awesome New Republic, Sirens & Sealions, Jacksonville's Tobacco Pat, Debbie D (formerly of Avenue D), Adult.'s Nicola Kuperus, Yip-Yip, Tristan Clopet, and so many more.  We've always tried to put a spotlight and emphasis on local Miami excellence and for anyone who says there is no art or culture down in Miami, they have no idea how many hardworking musicians and artists there are in this city.  We've just barely begun to scratch the surface.

And the list goes on and on -- all in our first year!

Again, a huge thanks to everyone who has been involved with REVMiami: Steve, Liz, Danny, Alexandra, Cary, Denise, Alexia, JGE, and our guest contributors, Notorious Nastie, JJ Colagrande (get his book Headz!), Digitall, and E. Grizzly.

Lots of love,

Ric

Thanks Ric - we need to get back in touch man. We're trying to bring the blues back to SFla :)

http://www.myspace.com/jaybluesband - those are some demos but its a blend of funkified blues with a hint of soul/R&B. We've managed to snag residencies all over the place in Miami + Lauderdale (including the likes of John Martins, Titanic Brewery, Gordon Biersch, Tobacco Road - which we actually play on the patio all night this Thursday 14th - etc.) it's a great live show and we play a unique mix of funked-out blues standards, originals and popular covers.

It's something I've been working on really hard so if you get a chance please check it out I guarantee you'll like it :) You gotta give me a ring too because I lost your info (7862801203)

Hope all is well brother and keep up the good work!
