Lauren CarderLauren Carder and the Multiple Me is the first EP produced and recorded by Lauren Carder and Joshua Bratcher. Lauren is an acoustic folk artist with a hint of blues, she is currently located in Orlando, Florida. This wonderful album is full of intricate guitar verses with a slough of harmonica and breath taking vocals.

The CD consists of five songs; Battles and Bullets, Killing Young, Land, Courage of an Open Heart, and Early Some Morning. Each song is unique and different from the next. She states that what she is trying to get across in her music is the multiplicity within one person. Hence the title, "Lauren Carder and the Multiple Me." Lauren talks about how we are all under the assumption that we are one whole person, but in reality we are little fragments and parts being pulled around by various forces.

The first song, Battles and Bullets, is about dealing with personal struggles and kind of "growing the balls" to deal with your personal problems. Lauren explains that it has a lot to deal with going head on into a personal struggle, or battle, and knowing your demons and how to concur them. As stated in the first line, "We're teased with battles and bullets," Lauren is conveying the need to better herself but sometimes having a tendency to be hard on herself for it.

Killing Young, the second song on the album, is about bringing out the parts of yourself that you have neglected and demonized, and realizing that they are not so bad. The first lyrics of the song are, "Bring out your dead," which is encouraging people to bring out those parts of themselves and be aware of how you are treating yourself. The moral of the story is to not be afraid, to see yourself, and to treat yourself well.

"When you wait until your troubles are far away, nobody wants to take up their own land," is the first lyric of the third song, Land. Lauren explained to me that this song is based upon her tendency of feeling really good about certain things and neglecting the things that she needs to work on. The song is about trying to encourage people to see the value in putting your roots down and taking care of yourself, the people around you, and your environment.

Courage of an Open Heart is a song about evaluating your direction in life. Lauren explains to me that it is not often that people truly ask themselves what they want out of life, and what they are afraid of. Courage of an Open Heart is asking you to ask yourself, to better yourself, and to concur your fears and goals in life.

The last song on the album, Early Some Morning, was inspired by a break up and is explaining that with any separation it will hurt a lot, and you have to give yourself time to let the wounds heal. In the song, Lauren sings, "It's okay to feel sad, because when we break a bond our emotions are open and we feel the loss even though the break may be good for us, and we recognize it's a necessary action and we're positive of moving on, there is still a cost," Lauren explained that this song was the first thing she wrote after a period of around three years of not writing anything, it was her way of relieving her emotions and letting herself heal.
