Big City Breakdown 12: Dyslexic Postcards - "The Shakes That You Make"

Big City Breakdown (BCB) is video feature where local musicians are taken out of their typical performance element and placed at one of Miami's signature outdoor locations as they present a song. The presentation will be shot in a single running take with no editing magic. BCB is an opportunity to showcase Miami's best talent, highlighting their versatility without electricity, four walls, and other amenities of the bar and club scene.
This episode is a special edition for our One-Year Anniversary party, taking place this Friday February 19 at White Room! We are glad to present Dyslexic Postcards, who were a featured act at the launch party a year ago and will be joining us again. The boys performed a catchy tune called “ The Shakes that you Make”.
Bob and I met Joshua Xmas, Gatoe Chango, Joe Smooth and the Maniacal Johan in South Beach on a windy day. We began setting up and a protector of the initial spot immediately ousted us. We ventured down Espanola Way and found a secluded alley, where we hoped to be left undisturbed.
We did some tests at the new location while the band warmed up. They have an infectious sense of humor and incorporate that into their music and presence. Meanwhile a photographer approached us accompanied by a model and a styling entourage. They clapped madly at the end of the song and the photographer requested that we have his model, Lissette, participate in an impromptu shoot with the band. The boys obliged and Lissette posed in the foreground smoking a cigar while Joshua danced all around her, it was hilarious.
