Weekend Videos Feb 13-15: Radar vs Wolf, ArtStreet: Sweat Records, Raffa & Rainer, Mute Miami
#1: Radar vs Wolf - If You Shoot Me, I'll Shoot You @ SmellThis! Studios AMP Night
Not that long ago one of Miami's favored sons, Tom Gorrio, left to California to look for brighter musical landscapes. I posted a farewell to Tom, and the final band that he had formed in Miami, Call It Radar, even did their farewell show at PS14 as part of REV sponsored Where Artists Meet Monthly (WAMM). Out in Cali, Tom formed another musical project with James Bratton, who, for lack of a better way of analyzing it, was Tom Gorrio in California: a solo, musical prodigy, who has been in bands, but eventually started doing his own thing, called Boy and the Wolf. The two began collaborating on a project together, seen above, as Radar vs Wolf.
Unfortunately (but fortunately for the Miami music community), things didn't exactly work out for Tom in Cali, so he's back in Miami. But, he's also drawn back another musical asset for the city, James Bratton. I've been covering Tom's various projects since UnScene Zine. From Objects In Transit, the band he was in with brother Renzo Gorrio, to Baby Calendar, which he formed with wife Jackie Biver and acheived national success and acclaim, then Call It Radar, and now Radar versus Wolf, it seems like every project Tom does is nothing short of brilliant. But now, to have found another musician that can share his high level understanding of songwriting... well, let's just say I'm excited to hear the outcome.

#2: ArtStreet Miami: Sweat Records is Miami's Best Music Store
Ah, Sweat Records, how I love thee. WLRN's ArtStreet covered Lauren Reskin's record store not that long ago, and how could they not? Since it's inception, Sweat Records is one of the most visible and public aspects of the Miami music scene. Lauren is doing just about everything she can to help with exposure, and getting the word out. She is part of the Florida Grammys, Filmiami, the Miami Dade Arts & Entertainment Board, and a whole lot more. Not to mention, Sweat is a main part of Fridays at The Vagabond, and they also have various shows all around Miami.
But remember, Sweat Records is her baby, and her main livelihood. Swing by her shop and buy something, support Sweat because you love Miami music.

#3: Raffa & Rainer - Church Steps @ Spiegelworld Jan 15, 2008
It is a serious shame I haven't writting about Raffa & Rainer more often. I can't explain how much I love them and their music. Heartfelt, well done, and just great music. Expect an upcoming piece soon.

#4: Mute Miami Promo
This video always makes me feel good. It always reminds me of what an amazing musical city we live in. I'm not sure exactly what happened to the whole Mute Miami movement, but either way, the bands that were involved with it, a record label would be drooling over themselves if they were all signed together. Sirens & Sealions, The Jean Marie, and Rachel Goodrich, these are the bands that have been defining the Miami folk and indie sound for the last couple of years.
