At Home With Gypsy Cat

Gypsy Cat is Miami’s most unique performance group blending jazz, flamenco, and Latin American rock to create a genre called Urban Flamenco Fusion. I initially met the band’s leader, Carl Ferrari, last year at the 11th Annual Medical Marijuana Benefit Concert where I was drawn to his charming guitar playing and tight band. Since then he has assembled some of Miami’s most talented individuals to craft the unparalleled act. The band is made up of Carl Ferrari on guitar, Richard Rippe on upright bass, Andres Roa on drums, Nestor Prieto on percussion, Ronald Rodriguez on sax and flute, and Ana Miranda as dancer.

Bob and I met up with Gypsy Cat at our principle location in the Design District. When we pulled up to the site it was being pressure cleaned, so then Nestor invited us back to his place. We pilled in our cars and caravanned over just a few blocks to find Nestor’s back yard sanctuary, where we all agreed was the best place to shoot the video.

Gypsy Cat played a lovely original song called "Jaleo", while Ana danced passionately upon a wooden stage. The experience was like that of a story unfolding before our eyes and ears as the band played flawlessly. We were treated to an intimate performance that cool afternoon in the shade filled courtyard, and we are happy to share it with all of you. Please keep an eye out for this band, as they perform regularly around the city.
