Weekend Videos - March 20-21: Art Deco, Indie Life, Miami in the House, and some Family Pride

#1: Associated Press: The Miami Beach Art District
I love how art is so integrated into this history's past. I've posted before on events like Art Deco weekend, but it never gets old to me. Most interestingly, "these buildings were built during the time of the Great Depression." I've always had a theory that in times of economic hardship moments of art explode. Hmm....
#2: My Indie Life - Ep 15 - Ex Norwegian, Rachel Goodrich
Yes, getting some national love! And no better two than Ex Norwegian and Rachel Goodrich.
I love the fact that the "extra instruments" that Rachel Goodrich plays are all adorable: ukulele, mandolin, kazoo, autoharp, recorder, xylophone, banjo, mandolin, spoons, pots, and pans.
Also, too bad they didn't show Lucas Leyva's Lightbulb video (which also won the video contest, there were 3 winners actually). I know it's controversial, but come on people, that one personifies Miami, and like it or not, it's where Rachel is from.
#3: Miami in the House by TurboFarm Productions
I'm posting this video in honor of Winter Music Conference. Personally, I'm not into the whole House and Techno scene, but like the video says, Ultra Music Festival, for example, is the largest gathering of Electronic Music in the Western Hemisphere. To deny the importance of "club music" in this city would be irresponsible, even though I don't necessarily like it.
Anyway, this video is actually incredibly well done, and I couldn't even find anything on the crew that made the video. Just goes to show how accessible video production has become.
#4: Vice Magazine's Motherboard Presents Oral History of Gaming: Eric Zimmerman and the Century of Play
This is all about some family pride. Eric Zimmermanis my cousin. He's always been the brightest star on my Mother's side of my family. He's always been really into games. I remember being an adolescent, and going to his house in Bloomington, Indiana, and playing games endlessly with him. One game, in particular, I'll always associate with him, called Globbo.
Eric's career recently took a slight turn, and now as an independent intellectual he's getting a lot of attention for his work and insights. This video shows a tiny part of his intellectualizing of games, and it's brilliant.
Anyway, I'm just bragging now.
