Weekend Videos March 6-7

We took last week off to get a little breather from the Weekend Video series, but no fear, here are 3 new ones for you to enjoy.

#1: Tristan Clopet covers Plain White T's Welcome To Mystery from the Alice in Wonderland Soundtrack in his Living Room Sessions Series

So maybe I'm getting an unhealthy obsession with Tristan Clopet's music, but can you blame me?  When was the last time you saw a local musician consistently turning out new songs, videos, and covers week after week?

As part of his Living Room Sessions video series, Tristan covers Plain White T's Welcome to Mystery from Tim Burton's latest piece of crap Alice in Wonderland (while I rarely bash local musicians and artists, I definitely have no problem bashing a guy who is considered "one of the greatest filmmakers of all time" and comes out with a Planet of the Apes remake that is one of the worst movies ever made... ever!).

I keep touting it, but Tristan's musical talent is undeniable and this video shows it.

#2: ArtOfficial - Making of "The Payback" Pt. 1

The Ocean!  I need this album.  Now.

Anyone who plays or understands the more "technical" aspects of music knows how ArtOfficial is on a completely different level than almost any other band in the "popular" local music scene (excluding Jazz and Classical - whose fundamental existence is based on understanding the technical side of music).

I'll relay a little story.  About half a year ago ArtOfficial played a show at Churchill's Pub with a couple of other bands.  For their set I stood in front of the stage, particularly by bassist Ralfy Valencia.  That night, their saxophonist Keith wasn't able to play, so they had a stand in, and they also had a guest guitarist too.

Whenever the guys would start a new song, Ralfy would go over to the fill-ins, and while playing, give them the music theory instructions - like "G minor - E major - B sharp" (or whatever, I don't know music theory that well myself).  Just like a conductor in a Jazz band or Classical Orchestra.

So impressive.

Anyway, so far they have three "making of..." videos for their new album.  You can find them on their YouTube Channel.

#3:  Sharks in the Streets (and Metromover) of Miami

Wouldn't every single person outside of Miami have a WTF?! reaction to this video?  But, this is one of the beautiful quirks of our town: guys dragging sharks through the streets of Miami, onto the Metromover, just trying to hustle up a buck or two.

What do you think these guys were thinking when they caught the shark?  Ño, vamos a hacer plata con este tiburón mi socio.

It's moments like this that make me love this city even more.
